Where is my Burberry poncho?

Last week K gave me a big pep talk about what I need to do to network and cultivate clients, yadayadayada.  I know he is right but I am very much a hermit and it is only through the grace of God and dumb luck that I actually have a circle of friends. I have always relied on life to put new friends in my path, that goes for new jobs too.  I mean once I have an opportunity, I jump on it, but in general, networking is SOOOOO not my gig.  It instantly makes me feel like the tallest 8th grade girl at the dance that wanted to disolve into the floorboards.

Well. If it doesn’t kill ya, it  makes ya stronger right?  Today I joined a “women’s club” in my county. They do lots of volunteer work and are not the fluffy “ladies that lunch” crowd however they are all wealthy suburban stay-at-home-moms with 5 carat diamond rings.  Natch, the first question is always “do you have kids????”   when I respond no, or that I have step kids, somehow I always feel like I am on the outside of things (a running theme in my life even prior to being infertile).  So my analysis of this new venture is this:  I need to get outside of myself, volunteering my time is LONG overdue, I might actually make friends around here,  I am certainly outside of my comfort zone in doing this and I think that is postive and hey, at the end of the day, perhaps I will get some new clients. 

Or I will indeed crumple into a ball on the floor, the tall dorky girl who is sometimes charming and sometimes VERY awkward.  Woohoo…. can’t wait…
